- Guest star Tom Poston had been the original choice to play Maxwell Smart when the show was first pitched to the ABC network to which Poston was contracted.
- In an interview Poston says that when he did this episode he never brought up the fact that he was originally cast as Maxwell Smart and wasn't sure whether Don Adams ever knew of this very fact. [1]
- This episode came three episodes after Absorb the Greek and the two episodes don't feel dissimilar in their premises. Whereas Absorb the Greek was about KAOS getting hold of the eternal youth formula for the purpose of revitalising their aged agents, Shock It to Me is about bringing KAOS agents back from the dead. In both cases it is about bringing back KAOS agents into service who under normal circumstances would not been able to do so.
- In this episode Max states that he doesn't have a brother - a status reversed the following year in Episode #129: "Rebecca of Funny-Folk Farm".
