Reality Check

Hiding behind the generic title this episode is a parody of hard-boiled detective movies, especially 1941's The Maltese Falcon, giving Don Adams his second of three opportunities to show off his Humphrey Bogart impression (the others being Episode #36: "Casablanca" and Episode #117 "The Treasure of C. Errol Madre").

The "Big Man" and "Little Man" villains are caricatures of frequent Bogart co-stars Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre with the twist that their names have been reversed (a similar pair appear in the earlier Casablanca-themed episode) while "Wilbur" refers to Maltese Falcon character "Wilmer Cook" and "Mrs. Weatherly" to "Miss Wonderly", the femme fatale of the movie.

99's line, "If you want me just whistle", is taken from Lauren Bacall's dialogue in To Have and Have Not.
