Trivia[]
- Unlike other occasions when the Chief is kidnapped and Max unilaterally takes charge, the Chief's absence in this episode is unmentioned and unexplained. Interestingly, 99 appears to be in charge. Since Max raises no objection it must be assumed that this is at the Chief's instruction.
- The Chief's absence is due to Ed Platt's continued back problems during the third season. Dr. Bascomb also acts as a stand-in for the Chief, most notably when Max has to stay with Bascomb for safety reasons and drives him as crazy as he would the Chief if he had been able to be in the episode.
Reality Check[]
- The title refers to the 1957 film (and Agatha Christie story) Witness for the Prosecution. Episode #131 "Witness for the Execution" also refers to this.
